"This year, San Sebastián food opened a gleaming new kitchen in the Hotel Maria Cristina, offering cooking classes and tours of local markets and pintxo bars. Founded in 2009 by Jon Warren, San Sebastián Food makes a delicious argument for midlife career change." - New York Post

Seasonality is the most important ingredient Basque cuisine.  Just a block from our cooking school sits La Bretxa, one of Basque Country’s most important markets that dates back to 1870. In this class, you’ll visit the market to shop for the day’s menu, and upon your return, work next to our chefs preparing Basque dishes that smack of the season—from Tolosa beans and their sacraments to preserves with local peppers.

  • bilingual instruction with the local chefs
  • aperitif & digestif
  • hands-on preparation of Basque dishes with top-quality produce
  • basque recipe booklet
  • gourmet lunch with wines
  • souvenir

Each Farmer’s Market to Table class ends with a delicious lunch and carefully chosen wine pairings.  You will gather around our rustic wooden table to enjoy what you and your fellow classmates have cooked using your newly acquired knowledge.

I liked all of it! The people, the experience and the food. Also our attendees were so much fun. Thanks you!

Since this company is already rated rated #1 in the category, I don't think it's necessary to write too much except to say it's obviously excellent. I joined the Essentials of Pintxo cooking class. The facility is superb, the staff/chefs are extremely friendly & helpful, this class is very conversational and a lot of fun. The class & staff doesn't feel like they're following a strict script; they genuinely enjoy what they do and truly want to show you a good time and how to cook their local dishes. Amazing experience that I would highly recommend to anyone!

"I was a little put off by the initial cost of the tour. However having completed the tour and experienced the cooking class - cannot speak highly enough of the overall experience. Ane took the time to find out where we were all from and how long we had been in San Sebastian. Her introduction was cons and to the point and focused on food - more importantly Basque food. The visit to the market(s) highlighted fresh produce, cuts of meat and importantly seafood. We bought fresh seafood and brought back to the Cooking class were we learnt to produce very simple but great local Basque food. Bendur our cooking instructor had a dry wit and showed us how to prepare squid, hake and pork. In all we prepare and ate six courses!!. The class was just great fun and feedback from others in the group was how hands on the experience was. Well worth the cost and my friends at home will now have to experience what I learnt from the class."
